BULLAUGE 6

BULLAUGE 6 · inspired by Arne Jacobsen - What does the Bullauge 6 have to do with Arne Jacobsen? A lot! In 1955, the famous Danish architect designed the Munkegårdsskolen (Munkegaaard School) in northern Copenhagen. This included the lights embedded in the sloping ceilings, which are still produced by Louis Poulsen today. 

Around the turn of the millennium, Mawa Design was primarily a manufacturer of home accessories with occasional forays into other aesthetic areas. Among other things, this led to Mawa Design producing Arne Jacobsen`s "Romer Clock" as a wall clock under licence. There was also a limited production of the "Aarhus City Hall" wristwatch and the corresponding wall clock. The pressing tools for the wall clock cases were later used to create the BULLAUGE 1-4 lamps, which were essentially repurposed wall clocks. The clock face was replaced by a diffuser and fitted with incandescent or fluorescent lamps on the back. In the wake of the developing LED era, the new BULLAUGE 6 was developed from scratch in 2013 in four diameters. At the same time, the family concept was implemented by offering a choice of five insert variants per diameter. The luminaire can be mounted directly on the wall or ceiling, it can be configured with a 5 cm gap or with a pendant suspension with or without indirect lighting. 

The AJ Munkegaard luminaires from Arne Jacobsen, with a similar housing edge to the wall luminaires, can still be seen today as inspiration for the Bullaugen series.
